(2) The Mersey Beatles live at The Cavern Club 1

World-renowned tribute band THE MERSEY BEATLES are about to head off on their biggest ever UK Tour.

Fresh from tours in the US and Europe, the band’s 17-date ‘Get Back’ Tour visits the very same towns, cities and venues the original Fab Four played in the 1960s – celebrating both the music and special places that helped shape the most famous band of all time.

Formed in 1999 in Liverpool, The Mersey Beatles – Mark Bloor (John), Steven Howard (Paul), Craig McGown (George) and Brian Ambrose (Ringo) – were the resident Beatles’ tribute band at Liverpool’s world famous Cavern Club between 2002-2012 and have now toured the world many times over.

  1. Q) You must be looking forward to your UK Tour?

Steve) Yes, it’s going to be amazing.
The idea behind this tour is we are playing the same venues The Beatles played when they toured Britain back in the day.
This ranges from traditional dancehalls from when they were just starting out to the big theatres they were rocking when Beatlemania exploded.
Sadly, so many of the original venues have been demolished down the years so it’s a real honour to be able to play those that have thankfully survived.

Craig) For us, we’re going to get a sense of what it’s like to play these iconic songs in these historic venues. We’re sure the audiences will enjoy these shows as much as we will playing them as we’re looking to recreate something very special – an authentic-sounding Beatles’ gig in a truly authentic setting.

Brian) Ever since we announced the tour we’ve been really looking forward to this. To take the show all over the UK – and throw in special moments unique to each venue – is going to be great and we can’t wait

  1. Q) And what can Beatles fans expect from the shows?

Steve) Two hours of the best music ever written played live!

Mark) We’re going to play the same setlist The Beatles did when they played these venues in the 1960s – the sets are a real barnstorming mix of rock’n’roll and a great way to start the show.
Of course, given the fact The Beatles only usually played for about 20 minutes at their gigs back in the 60s we’ll be playing for a bit longer on the night!
We’ll incorporate the original sets into a full show that will chart The Beatles’ career from the days of Love Me Do right through to their last album Let It Be.

Brian) What’s also really special is that we get to play songs live The Beatles never did.
They finished touring in 1966 so we play songs from the later, more experimental albums, such as Sgt Pepper, The White Album and Abbey Road, live on stage.
This year, with it being the 50th anniversary of The White Album we’re going to be playing a few songs from this classic LP. Songs like Dear Prudence and Helter Skelter are not often heard live, so we’re really looking forward to this.

We try to present as true interpretation as possible, so the audience is getting a real sense of what it was like to be there in the 60s. Our show is not stilted, over-produced or cold, it’s a fun show, full of amazing songs and banter which is what a Beatles’ gig should be.

  1. Q) Do you feel any extra pressure in making the show as authentic as possible?

Steve) At the end of the day we are Beatles fans and, as fans, we want to make our shows as authentic as possible. The Beatles are so well loved, everyone knows their songs, so everything we do has to be just right. It’s been our mantra since day one when we formed in 1999 that we want to be the most authentic sounding tribute there is.

Craig) To get the chance to get up on these stages and play this extraordinary, era-defining music is a real privilege and one which excites us every time we do a gig.
Beatles fans want that true, unmistakable sound, and that is what we bring to the show. For two hours we all – the band and the audience – get lost inside this wonderful music and have a great time. That is why music is such an amazing medium.

Mark) The reaction of the audience is everything. Beatles fans want it to be just right.
We make the audience part of the show. We have no script, we interact with them and, yes, we will be asking them to get up on their feet to dance. Hopefully they will not be able to help themselves!

  1. Q) Ahead of your UK Tour you asked fans who went to the original gigs in the 1960s to get in touch. Did you get much of a response?

Steve) Yes, we did. So many people have shared really heart-warming tales of what it was like to be at a Beatles show in the 1960s, really painting pictures of the sounds and sights of these legendary gigs.
We will be using some of these stories as part of the show and I think it gives a real insight into what the band still means to the fans who saw them on these stages.

Craig) Many of the stories are from couples who met at the gigs, are still married and still love The Beatles. We also heard from some of the bands who supported The Beatles at these shows and got a real sense of what the Fab Four were like backstage. I’m delighted to say everyone thought they were great guys who really helped their fellow musicians.

Mark) One of my favourite stories we received has to be the teenage girl who got on stage at Port Sunlight (where we start our tour on October 31) and stole Paul McCartney’s tie from right off his neck! This fan, now a lady in her 70s, is coming to our Port Sunlight show so we’ll make sure our ties are firmly secured!

Brian) There was also the young lad in Newcastle who could not afford to go to the original show so snuck in with his mates. Their hiding spot was discovered when the curtain went up and The Beatles came on stage, so they were booted out of the venue. He did get to meet the band afterwards outside the very same hotel where John and Paul wrote She Loves You. It’s a day this guy still remembers as clear as it was 55 years ago, and we are delighted he, too, is coming to our Newcastle show.

  1. Q) Before touring the world, you were the resident Beatles tribute band at The Cavern Club for more than a decade. What was that experience like and how did it shape you as a band?

Steve) As a Liverpool band the first time we played The Cavern in 2001 was really special. We played sporadic gigs over a one-year period and then they asked us to become the resident band which was a great honour. Ten years after this, we had not only topped The Beatles record of 292 gigs there but doubled it. Once we passed that landmark we knew we had done something really special.

Brian) Those years at the Cavern Club were our ‘Hamburg period’. We were only young but playing all those gigs made us much better musicians and we became a really tight unit.

When we got the residency, we were playing there two or three times a week, so you can’t put a price on how much that improved us as a band. It really honed us as a band and as musicians. We always had to keep it fresh and we were able to expand our repertoire. We came out of that amazing experience the band we are today.

Craig) It means a hell of a lot for any musician to play The Cavern Club. It’s a really special place, the best club in the world, and even now after all these years it is a gig you always look forward to – it’s magical.

(6) Mark Bloor as John (1)

  1. Q) Since leaving The Cavern you have toured the world many times. How do you go down in other parts of the globe?

Mark) Different parts of the world react differently. In America they are right up for it from the start. Even before you go on stage you can hear that they’re really up for it whereas in Sweden they’re a little bit more reserved, sit back and want you to entertain them. The British crowds are just like those in America – they just want to party!

Steve) America is crazy, which is probably why we tour there three times a year. But British people are very proud of The Beatles and the legacy – these brilliant songs are part of the British psyche. The British audience is very much like the American one, Beatles fans who are up for a great night.

Craig)  The audiences are really enthusiastic wherever you go and are on your side from the start. They are willing you to do well from the minute you get on stage because they want to hear the music they love and be entertained… and that’s what we do!

Brian) It’s been an amazing journey. To have gone around the world, to so many countries, and be able to play this amazing music night after night, we feel really blessed.

  1. Q) You have a wonderful body of work to choose from for the tour, but do you have favourite songs to play live and a favourite Beatles’ albums?

Mark) Album – Revolver                    Song – This Boy

Steve) Album – Please Please Me      Song – Strawberry Fields Forever

Brian) Album – Revolver                    Song – Come Together

Craig) Album – Let It Be (Naked)        Song – It’s All Too Much

  1. Q) Do you see the world’s fascination with The Beatles slowing down?

Mark) Not any time soon!

Steve) We weren’t even born when The Beatles split up. New generations continue to discover and fall in love with this amazing music and it seems The Beatles are as relevant today as they ever were.

Craig) The music is universal, and it still rings true today. It’s got big themes such as peace and love, and I think it speaks to all people. Who doesn’t want peace and love in their life?

Brian) I think what’s important is The Beatles did not stand still. They are not just the four ‘mop tops’ singing about wanting to hold your hand. Yes, that is the era when the world fell in love with them, but they grew and developed together as a band.

Mark) They were not afraid to experiment with all different types of music. There is something there for everyone whether it is the rock’n’roll era Beatles to the more ‘way out’ experimental stuff of their later career.

  1. Q) And it must be great to see new generations of Beatles fans coming to your gigs?

Mark) Yeah, it is, We have a fair few young kids coming to our shows as well as people who are old enough to remember The Beatles when they first exploded onto the scene. If we see the kids, we do make a point of giving them a shout out and tell them how impressed we are they are into The Beatles.
The generations are still coming through and becoming massive Beatles fans.

Steve) It’s an amazing thing. We have children of 5-years-old to teenagers coming to our gigs and they all like different things.
To see teenagers getting into the really cool stuff like The White Album is brilliant and shows The Beatles’ music is timeless. I really can’t see the love affair with The Beatles ever ending.

(1) The Mersey Beatles

“The Mersey Beatles have that brilliant ability to get people on their feet dancing…
John would have loved that!” JULIA BAIRD, JOHN LENNON’S SISTER

‘Put on your dancing shoes Rhyl – The Mersey Beatles are coming!’

John Lennon’s sister Julia Baird is warning music fans to ‘get ready to dance’ when The Mersey Beatles hit the stage at Rhyl Pavilion.

After sold out shows in the USA, Asia and Europe, the world renowned Liverpool-born tribute band are retracing The Beatles’ footsteps on their ‘Get Back UK Tour’ which visits the same towns, cities and original venues the Fab Four rocked in the 1960s.

The Beatles famously played Rhyl three times in Rhyl – at the former Regent Dansette Ballroom in July 1962 and two consecutive nights at the old Ritz Ballroom in July 1963.

To celebrate both The Beatles’ music and the towns that helped shape their world-changing Rock ‘n’ Roll sound, The Mersey Beatles are playing a not-to-be-missed show at Rhyl Pavilion on Saturday November 10th as part of their 17-date UK tour.

The brilliant two-hour show will not only see The Mersey Beatles play the very same songs John, Paul, George and Ringo did in Rhyl in 1962 and 1963 but they will chart the Fab Four’s full career through the hits from Love Me Do to Let It Be.

And music fans are already being warned to put on their dancing shoes!

Julia Baird, who first saw older brother John Lennon and his band perform for her in her kitchen at home in the 1950s and is a director of Liverpool’s world famous Cavern Club, said: “It’s going to be a brilliant show in Rhyl. The Mersey Beatles are a fantastic band who nail the sound of The Beatles. I’ve known them for the best part of 20 years and they recreate The Beatles atmosphere wonderfully.

“The audience will have a great time and I’m sure the good people of North Wales will not be constrained by their seats on the night as The Mersey Beatles have that brilliant ability to get people up on their feet dancing. John would have loved that!”

Formed in Liverpool in 1999, The Mersey Beatles – Mark Bloor (John), Steven Howard (Paul), Craig McGown (George) and Brian Ambrose (Ringo) – were the resident Beatles’ tribute band at The Cavern for more than a decade and have now toured the world many times over.

They brilliantly exude the inner and outer spirit of the real thing from the costumes, the instruments and, of course, that unmistakable and legendary Liverpool-born sound.

Mark said: “We pride ourselves on bringing a true Beatles experience, covering all the eras from the days of The Cavern Club, through Beatlemania to Sgt Pepper and the band’s final gig on the rooftop of the Apple offices. We cannot wait to Get Back to where it all began for the greatest band of all time.”

Craig added: “We’re sure the audiences will enjoy these shows as much as we will playing them as we’re looking to recreate something very special – an authentic-sounding Beatles’ gig in a truly authentic setting.”

Steven said: “We are, of course, all Beatles fans and, as Liverpool lads we’ve been obsessed with the band since we were in school. It’s going to be great to follow in the Fab Four’s footsteps and truly recreate those special shows.”

Brian added: “To take the show all over the UK, and throw in special moments unique to each venue, is going to be great – we can’t wait.”

The world’s love affair with The Beatles and their music shows no signs of diminishing.

Julia, who speaks at music conventions all over the world and released her book ‘Imagine This: Growing Up with My Brother John Lennon’ in 2007, added: “The Beatles popularity continues unabated and for me the reason is the songs. There is something within them for everyone, beautiful melodies, wonderful lyrics and they continue to resonate with generation after generation – these songs are truly engrained into our psyche.”

The Mersey Beatles play Rhyl Pavilion on Saturday November 10th. Tickets are on sale from the venue box office (Tel: 01745 330000) or via

Produced by Concept Concerts this production, acclaimed by a Sunday Times journalist as “Mighty, moving and unstoppable,” sees 8-piece band, The Goldhawks, deliver a stunning live performance of The Who’s smash hit concept album, Quadrophenia. From the very first show it has received standing ovations.

Released over 40 years ago in October 1973, The Who’s second rock opera ‘Quadrophenia’ was Pete Townshend’s homage to a piv-otal moment in British youth culture. The album tells the story of Jimmy, a Mod, by chronicling his dissatisfaction with life, work, love, home, and family life. It served as an ode to teenage angst and counterculture rebellion, as well as a criticism of the British class, economic and educational systems but you don’t need to be clued up on the history of the Mods and Rockers to enjoy this show because at its core, Quadrophenia, which peaked at No. 2 on the UK and USA charts, is just about teenage confusion, conflict and frustration.

Backed with exciting, and sometimes heart-wrenching, large-screen projection of archival footage, the emotions, tension and raw power that the music demands is delivered masterfully by the fabulous, charismatic band, The Goldhawks, with amazing replication of The Who’s sound.

To send you home on an even bigger high there are a few all-time classic Who hits to close the show!

10cc in Concert plus Support

Thursday 25th October, 2018 @ 7:30pm

£36 no concessions

Among the most inventive and influential bands in the history of popular music, 10cc are one of the very few acts to have achieved commercial, critical and creative success in equal measure.

Testament to 10cc’s ongoing appeal, the band can count a generation straddling array of fellow artists, everyone from Chrissie Hynde to The Feeling’s Dan Gillespie and Axl Rose to Sophie Ellis Bextor, among their many millions of fans.

I’m Not In Love, co-written by Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart, features prominently in the soundtrack to the 2014 blockbuster film Guardians of the Galaxy, which grossed $635 million in its first two months in US cinemas and spawned a No 1 album. Meanwhile, a key element of the soundtrack to 2010’s Facebook feature film The Social Network is Dreadlock Holiday, which is also the Sky Sports cricket reports theme in Australia.

10cc has sold more than 30 million albums around the world and the band’s longevity is testament to their timeless songs, and reflecting Gouldman’s status as one of the world’s leading songwriters, he was inducted into America’s Songwriter’s Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York in June. Previous inductees include Noel Coward, Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, Elton John and Sting.

The band continues to traverse the globe and play countries as disparate as Iceland and South Africa, Latvia and Japan, as well as across Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Canada and the US.

Gouldman attributes 10cc’s lasting appeal to the quality and individuality of the band’s songs.  “They don’t seem to date; they are original, we never followed any trend we simple wrote for our own pleasure. The fact that the songs are being played as often on the radio today as they ever were shows how true that is,” he says. 10cc ruled the pop world at a time – the 1970s – when the charts were dominated by some of the most creative and colourful artistes in pop history.

“Year on year we get busier and busier. It’s great, we love touring and playing together and we get on really well. The audiences these days are very gratifying. You get the people you would expect, who grew up with 10cc, but you also get young kids who know the songs too,” says Gouldman.

With four decades of song-writing excellence and a crack band of musicians behind him Gouldman confidently promises, “This is as near as you’re ever going to get to hearing the perfect 10cc. Hit after hit after hit. It’s relentless. We show no mercy.”

The live band’s line-up is:

Graham Gouldman      –     bass, guitars, vocals

Rick Fenn      –     lead guitar, vocals, bass guitar

Paul Burgess      –     drums, percussion

Iain Hornal      –     vocals, percussion, guitar, keyboards

Keith Hayman      –     keyboards, guitar, bass, vocals

Paul has worked with 10cc from the beginning and Rick joined the live band in the mid-‘70s.

Rhyl Events Arena – Summer Festival

Sunday 12th August, 2018 12pm start

Heather Small – the voice of M People – will be performing at a free festival in Rhyl this summer.

Denbighshire County Council, with support from Rhyl Town Council, is hosting the event, which also features Showaddywaddy and Doctor and The Medics, at Rhyl Events Arena on Sunday, August 12 from midday until 6pm.

Heather Small was the lead singer of M People, known for a string of hits in the early 90s including One Night in Heaven, Moving on Up and Search for the Hero.

She released her first solo album, Proud in 2000, and in 2008 appeared on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, finishing in 9th place.

Cllr Bobby Feeley, Denbighshire’s lead member for Well-being and Independence, said: “I am delighted to welcome such a fantastic line-up to the Rhyl Events Arena Festival.

“Events like this help the community come together and celebrate, which is part of the Council’s work to support well-being and community cohesion, as well as attracting visitors to our county and increasing economic prosperity.

“This is going to be a great event for Denbighshire and I would encourage residents and visitors alike to come and enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere on the day.”

Cllr Win Mullen James, Mayor of Rhyl, said: “Rhyl will once again be hitting all the right notes with its summer festival event. The fact we can attract people like Heather Small is testimony to the town’s growing reputation for hosting great events.

“Rhyl Town Council is pleased to be supporting the music extravaganza, alongside the air show and our own community events too. We’re looking forward to a summer of fantastic entertainment.”

Doctor and the Medics, who played the event last year, are best known for their cover of Norman Greenbaum’s Spirit in the Sky, a No.1 hit in 1986, while Showaddywaddy had a number of Top Ten hits in the 1970s including Under the Moon of Love, Three Steps to Heaven and You Got What It Takes.

Clive Jackson, of Doctor & The Medics, said: “Festivals mean a lot to me as they bring people and communities together to celebrate and enjoy music. We can’t wait to get back to Rhyl to perform. We will be playing a set full of great 80s songs everyone knows that have all been given the Medics treatment.”

Other acts performing include Dusty Springfield tribute act Maxine Mazumber and local soul and funk band Yubaba.

Proudly presents: Jason Manford: Muddle Class

He’s back! It’s been a busy few years for Jason since his last smash-hit stand up show but fans of his Absolute Radio show will know this nationally acclaimed comedian hasn’t changed a bit. ‘Muddle Class’ promises to feature a wealth of new material about Jason growing up ‘working class’ then finding, over the years, that part of him has become ‘middle class’ – causing much confusion!   Delivered with Jason’s amiable charm and captivating wit, this is a show not to be missed.

Jason said: “Somebody said to me on my Facebook fan page, ‘it’s been ages since you’ve toured’.  I thought ‘no way, it was last year wasn’t it?  Anyway, long story short, they were right, it was years ago!  I just got fooled cos I’ve been on tour doing musicals and the last tour is repeated on Dave ja Vu 13 times a day!  So I’ve been putting some stuff together, looking at my life and how it’s changed over the years, how the world has changed and how my parents haven’t changed a bit!  It’s going to be a great tour and I can’t wait to see you there.”

‘8 out of 10 Cats’ (Channel 4), ‘The Nightly Show’ (ITV1),  ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’ (ITV1), ‘Live at the Apollo’ (BBC One), ‘Have I Got News For You’, (BBC One), QI (BBC Two) and ‘The Royal Variety Performance’ (ITV1) have all helped establish Jason as a nationally known comic.

Up Close and Personal with MARTINE McCUTCHEON

Saturday 12th May, 2018 @ 7:30pm

£25 concessions £2 off, Groups 10+ £20 (available from the Box Office)

Martine McCutcheon, first found fame as Tiffany Mitchell in Eastenders in the 1990s, before releasing her platinum-selling debut solo album ‘You, Me & Us’ in 1999 containing the No. 1 single ‘Perfect Moment’. West End and TV roles followed and along the way she became the nation’s sweetheart. In 2003, Martine memorably played Natalie opposite Hugh Grant in ‘Love Actually.’

Now 41, happily married, mother of a 2 year old, the time felt right to return to the studio. Martine has co-written most of the songs on the new album ‘Lost and Found’ with her husband, the multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Jack McManus, and she has never sounded better!

Martine is back not only musically; she also reprised her role in the Comic Relief reunion of ‘Love Actually’ earlier this year and has just wrapped a film with Alan Davies called ‘The Bromley Boys.’

However it’s music that’s her main focus. First single ‘Say I’m Not Alone’, is a song like nothing Martine has ever recorded before; big, bold, brash, merging clanging guitars, thumping drums and a hard hitting lyric. Other album highlights include the rocky ‘Any Sign Of Life’, the beautiful ‘Stay With Me’ (which is a duet with Jack) and album closer ‘Rebellion’.

The album is a deeply personal record that deals with everything from relationships to Martine’s debilitating illness that saw her unable to work. “Life brought this album about very gradually,” explains Martine. “It was a really unconscious thing; I started writing the songs at a time in my life when I’d lost everything.”

Totally TINA!

Friday 13th April, 2018 @ 7:30pm

Ticket Prices: £21 concessions £1 off (f)

Having held the title as the UK’s Official number one tribute to the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina Turner, since the inaugural National Tribute Music Awards in 2013 (as voted for by the Agents Association of Great Britain), we are delighted to announce that Totally Tina have won the award again in 2017 and will be collecting their trophy at the Awards ceremony at the Athena Theatre, Leicester, on 5th July.

Now in their 6th successful year, with a 60 date theatre tour booked for 2017, US and
European tours in the pipeline, and dates for 2018 flying in, Totally Tina is the longest
running tribute to the legendary Queen of Rock and Roll.

With even more Totally TINA custom twists, new songs and routines, including fire
performers, this is a veritable feast for the senses! Liverpool born and based singer Justine Riddoch, has been treading the boards on the north-west circuit for over 26 years.
But it was in 2002 that her career would change direction. After winning ITV’s “Stars in
their Eyes” as Anastacia, her tribute show “Justine is Anastacia” was in great demand and she spent the next 6 years performing as her around the world, enlisting a live band to create more of a show feel. When Anastacia stopped releasing albums and her popularity waned, it was time to change direction again.

So in 2011 Justine decided to create, with her fabulous cast, a Tina Turner concert style
tribute show to honour the Queen of Rock and Roll. Rather than being a biography, this
show focuses on Tina’s live concert career, replicating scenes from various tours over the
last 50 years with custom twists and turns created by Justine and her cast.

The show has gone from strength to strength, getting rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, dancing in the aisles and standing ovations everywhere it goes. Featuring state of the art video screens, lighting and sound systems, a fabulous live band, the Totally Tina dancers with fully choreographed dance routines, fire performers, costumes galore and Justine’s uncanny impersonation of the legend that is Tina, this is one spectacular show! Get ready to Shake your Tailfeathers with the Queen of Rock and Soul, Live from Nutbush and Simply the Best!

Paul Jones, with his unique harmonica sound, will be joined by Mike Hugg on keyboards, Tom McGuinness on guitar, Rob Townsend on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass, and Simon Currie on saxophone/ flute.
